The only thing more amazing than my ability to repeatedly lose 25 pounds is my ability to gain it back even quicker. As I sit here preparing my mind to lose those same 25 pounds again, I wonder why I keep doing this.
Some facts that I know about myself.
- Although I’d like to lose weight for health purposes, I mostly just do it for cosmetic reasons.
- These are purely for my cosmetic reasons, not my husband’s. Although I’m sure he prefers a lower weight, he’s nice enough to not make it a big deal. I know many women do it for their husband. I mostly do it for myself (though I will admit to telling him he should really have higher standards).
- I am goal-oriented. I like structure and a program and a goal. I usually meet the goal (Body for Life program completed, half marathon completed) and then gain it all back.
- I know what to do so it’s a matter of doing it, not of education.
- I don’t usually notice when I’m gaining weight by looking in a mirror. I have to quantify it with a scale.
It would appear that since I’m goal-oriented and know what to do, I should set a goal, complete it and then set a new goal. What a concept.
Thank you for helping me work through this, Internet.
Off to find a goal….

You should never complete more than 75% of your goal. This is because as you can see you’re on track to complete your goal your motivation drops. Therefore you need to keep setting new goals. I suspect once you’ve completed your goal you lose your motivation. I hope this helps.

I yo-yo too much. I like to think I am goal oriente but when it comes to being consistently goal oriented I just seem to lose the plot. The very fact that you can lose the weight in the first place is a massive thing you should build on as a personal resource.

I was JUST having this exact discussion with my sister today! Ugh. And of course, every single time I swear that I will NOT put myself through this again. And of course, with every cycle, I’m a year older and the pounds reappear quicker and disappear more slowly. Very annoying. I think my problem boils down to liking food too much and getting bored too easily

At least your 25 comes and goes. Mine sticks right to my body with little chance of departing. My fault. I get it. But, damn, I’m so exhausted from “life”, I wonder when I’ll ever work in some real exercise. I walk…..and it’s helpful…..but I’d love to do more.
If I could just acquire some black-market phen phen, my problems would be solved. Took it in college and lost 17 pounds in a month. That HAS to be healthy, right?

This is so interesting… at least you know it is very possible to lose the 25, unlike those people that just can’t figure out how to lose weight.
I’m curious to see what your next audacious challenge for yourself will be…
