Documentaries, they are my brain food

I often say that I don’t like movies but it’s not entirely true. I like movies that are well-done; in particular, most documentaries. While I’ve fallen asleep watching “Twilight” or 100% of any action movies, you give me a documentary about the AIDS crisis in Africa and I’m totally there.

I wish I could see every documentary that comes out but they aren’t often easy to see since theaters don’t usually show it. I am going to start making better use of iTunes movie rental.

Here are some that I have seen and loved. What others can you recommend?

Just watched “My Mother’s Garden,” available entirely free online. It’s about the adult children of a hoarder and their attempts to rescue her.

Did you see “This Is It” in theaters? Michael Jackson’s concert in January 1988 was the best I’ve ever attended. This documentary shows him as the true artist that he is. It comes out on DVD in January.

I own “March of the Penguins” on DVD. It makes me cry every time.

Earlier this year, a documentary about Mike Tyson was made called “Tyson.” Unexpectedly moving and interesting, it’s a glimpse into what motivates him and offers a tragic look at how he got to be who he is today.

Full documentary is on YouTube.

And coming in April is this documentary which chronicles the lives of 4 babies around the world called “Babies.” Can’t wait.

If you haven’t already, you should watch “Young at Heart” it is a documentary about a group of senior citizens in a chorus that does covers of rock songs. I loved it!

Corey,
You’re probably the 5th person to let me know about that documentary. I’ll try to find it. It’s not on iTunes but maybe I can find it elsewhere. Thanks.

Oops, I was wrong. It IS on iTunes but they spell it as “Young@Heart” so I’ll be watching tonight!

You are such a girl after my own heart. I’m such a documentary-addict… most people don’t understand. Nothing thrills me more than finding new, awesome documentaries free online…

Check out this one if you haven’t seen it.

I have never been big into documentaries, but I have stumbled upon some that held my attention. Can’t remember what they were though.
